Windshield Chip Repair

Windshield Repair is the first recommended step to saving a windshield from replacement. If a chip meets certain guidelines, a rock chip repair can be attempted to stabilize the broken area and keep the chip from turning into a crack. We always attempt a repair first to save you money and its the eco-friendly choice by keeping windshields out of the landfill.

In consideration of NWRA (National Windshield Repair Association) standards, and for the safety of our customers, Legacy Glass does not attempt Windshield Chip Repairs in the Driver’s Primary Viewing Area (DPVA). Please call to get specifics of DPVA.

Additional Considerations for Chip Repair:

  • • Total damage no larger than the size of a quarter.
  • • No previous repair to same chip.
  • • No contamination in chip void.
  • • Repair can not be attempted in the rain.
  • • Windshield must be dry and protected from weather for the duration of the repair process.

A windshield with a chip is essentially a broken piece of glass.
The chip repair process begins with an inspection and preparation of the damaged area. A patented epoxy is then injected under pressure to fill the fissure. The epoxy is properly cured and a secondary sealant is applied and cured to form a water and debris barrier.

During this process there exists a slight chance that the existing damage could extend into a crack. Legacy Glass will take every possible precaution while working on your windshield, however, our technician is attempting to stabilize a piece of broken glass. Therefore, we do not assume liability for any extension of the breakage that may occur during the process.

Due to the many variables involved in a windshield chip repair (such as type and size of damage, age of the windshield, road oils, etc.) Legacy Glass cannot guarantee the degree of clarity a repair will exhibit. Although chip repairs usually improve in appearance after the repair (up to 75%), some will not change optically and will remain visible or noticeable.

The primary goal of any repair is to stabilize the damaged area.

Insurance Claims
If your vehicle has comprehensive insurance coverage, most insurers will cover chip repairs at no cost to you. They encourage you to attempt a repair in hopes they can avoid paying for a replacement. We are approved by most insurance carriers and are happy to help you set up a claim. You have the right to take your car anywhere you wish for repair, you can count on us to do it right.

You're in luck! We service your area!
