Heavy glass is the most popular trend out there right now. 3/8″ to 1/2″ thick glass in clear or textured options are available. If you are planning a remodel, please be sure that your contractor knows you want heavy glass, so they can triple stud the walls to properly support the glass panels and door.

Also, please consider that heavy glass shower doors are not water tight. The clamps stand off from the wall a bit which creates a gap where the door swings away from any panel. These gaps will allow water to pass through. Please be aware that these types of doors do not hold back water as the framed doors do.

A Few things to consider when choosing a shower door that is right for your home:

• • If walls are triple studded to support heavy glass
• • Placement of the Shower Head in relation to how the door will open
• • Size, placement and angle of the curb

These manufacturers have the latest technology in protective coatings for glass. Once applied, they seal the microscopic pores in the glass where hard water damage begins and accelerates. With the application of the protectant, the glass will be resistant to etching and staining from hard water, lime scaling, water spotting, and soap scum. As an added bonus, the treated glass is much easier to clean!
